About the event

BOAR'S HEAD RESORT

Boar’s Head Resort celebrates what endures — the beauty of the land, the hospitality of its people, the grace of its traditions. Here, the borders between past and future, between rest and play, between serenity and energy dissolve away.

This AAA four-diamond country resort mingles the best with the best — classic with contemporary, refined with casual, tranquil with dynamic.

Boar’s Head is owned by the University of Virginia (UVA) Foundation, extending its mission to serve as stewards of the land and hosts to its visitors. There is a home UVA football game on Saturday. This, combined with the 3-day weekend and the beginning of the Fall Colors, means rooms will go quickly. You are encouraged to register with WCGA and book your room soonest.

Room Accommodations

WCGA has a block of rooms reserved at a discounted rate of $323.00 per night for single/double occupancy (this is an average rate of all three nights). If sharing, the individual room rate is $161.50. Each night, per room, there is an additional $25 resort fee and 10.3% tax.

A 25% deposit of first night’s stay ($385.00) is required when making your reservation. A 2-night minimum, Friday and Saturday, is required at this rate.

Can cancel and receive a full refund if done by Sept 30. If cancel within 7 days of arrival, will be charged for 1 night (room rate, fee, and tax).

BIRDWOOD GOLF

The Nest:  Touted as "golf in under an hour" and designed by Davis Love III and Love Golf Design, The Nest at Boar’s Head Resort is a unique addition to the Birdwood Golf experience that encompasses six short holes designed as an “approach course.” The course is an ideal place to practice your short game and is also an excellent opportunity for players who are in the early stages of learning the game. Par 3, walking course. Discounted rate of $50/person includes group lesson.

Birdwood: The goal of the Birdwood design team was for the course “to always feel like it has been here.” Davis Love III, along with his brother Mark Love and course architect Scot Sherman, used references of courses from all over the world in designing Birdwood. When working to redesign Birdwood Golf, Love Golf Design took advantage of undeveloped land to create several new holes, many of which are on the front nine. The back nine at Birdwood Golf Course is as scenic as it gets. A true highlight of these holes is number 17 where golfers must navigate an overly memorable par-3 shot that lies in the shadows of the historic Birdwood homestead. Discounted rate of $140/person includes green fees, cart, and bucket of balls.

Ridges Putting Course. Virginia's largest putting course, where practicing your short game doesn't stop at the par-3 course and driving range. As a part of the Davis Love III redesign, the Love Golf Design team incorporated an 18-hole putting course that spans nearly an acre in size. Course architect, Scot Sherman of Love Golf Design, teed up some creativity on this unique amenity by creating slopes and surfaces that mimic the mountain scenery that lies in the background. No cost.

Dining

After play on Friday, enjoy a casual dinner and the mountain views at the Birdwood Bar and Grill. Add-on.

With a rich history dating back to 1735, this privately-owned club offers an experience like no other. Avid and novice golfers alike will find Farmington a haven for the sport. Our 28 holes include the original south and north nines, making up Farmington's Main Course, laid out by Fred Findlay in 1927. The Main Course is consistently recognized as one of Virginia’s top, most challenging traditional golf courses. A discounted, non-accompanied guest rate, of $150/person includes green fees, cart, bucket of balls, and one (1) free drink ticket.

After play, enjoy a late lunch at Michie Tavern and “Get a Taste of the 18th Century”! 15 minutes from Farmington Country Club and Boar’s Head Resort! Add-on.
