On Saturday, June 29th, WCGA members escaped to Clifton, VA to play 18 holes at Westfields Golf Club. The tree-lined Fred Couples design is about 40 minutes west of DC. The temps were high but the group lucked out with a consistent breeze and partially cloudy sky.
The course is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, so the setting was secluded and serene as there are no homes on the course. Well-groomed fairways and greens kept the course challenging yet friendly, and playing from the forward tees allowed some relief from the occasional forced carries off the tee over rough and hazards.
Those that were able to join for dinner went to Trummers on Main Street, a lovely restaurant in the quaint Historic downtown district of Clifton, VA. They enjoyed craft cocktails, gem lettuce, charred octopus, porcini crusted scallops and venison filet. This was a new outing for the group, and WCGA plans to hold this outing again in 2025, with a 9-hole option.
Westfields was a fun outing - challenging greens for sure! Thanks for organizing.
